2004 Feild Trips
Over the last year we organized two field trips; the first one was to “Abu Roash Protected Area and Cairo Alexandria road geology” on Feb., 13, 2004, this trip was under the sponsorship of Shell Egypt, which provided us with logistic needs and food .The trip was led by Dr. Ahmed Niazy El Barkooky. Mr. Hugh Nicholson senior geologist, in bp Egypt, jointed the trip in addition to the members of the CUSC. The trip was proposed to show the 1st & 2nd year students different kinds of structures related to the Late Cretaceous fold belt and also the stratigraphic pattern and facies of these Late Cretaceous rocks. The trip involved also an archeological side represented by visiting the incomplete pyramid of the pharaoh Gidif Raa that located in this area. The pyramid is dated to the seventh dynasty.
